State Representative Geraldo Alicea was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives November 7, 2007. His district includes his hometown of Charlton, his childhood home of Southbridge, the town of East Brookfield, and portions of the towns of Spencer and Oxford. Representative Alicea, is a 1982 graduate of Southbridge High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Westfield State College and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. He has lived in Charlton for sixteen years with his wife Rosemarie and their three young children, Lauren, Michael and Katherine. 

As a member of the legislature, Representative Alicea was appointed to the Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, the Committee on Health Care Finance, and the Education Committee. He is also a member of the Charlton Democratic Town Committee. Before representing the 6th Worcester District in the Massachusetts Legislature, Rep. Alicea worked as a probation officer in the Worcester Superior Court for ten years. Before that he spent time working in both the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

In 2007 Representative Alicea was awarded “Freshman Legislator of the Year” by the Massachusetts Nursing Association, and in 2008 he was awarded “Legislator of the Year” by Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 the Hispanic News Press and El Planeta Newspaper recognized Representative Alicea as one of the most influential individuals in the Hispanic Community in Massachusetts. In 2010 he was awarded Citizen of the Year by Leonide J. Lemire VFW Post 6055.
